Kayaking with dolphins in Marineland, St Augustine, FL

Kayaking Ecotours Tours from Marineland

In our continuing effort to provide the best eco-educational kayaking experiences in Northeast Florida,  Ripple Effect Ecotours has now partnered with Marineland Dolphin Adventure and the University of Florida's Whitney Lab for Marine Bioscience.  This new partnership combines an incredible foundation in research, education, conservation, and natural interpretation with unique access to the southern boundary of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM-NERR).  This is the perfect central location to explore the Jordon and Mellon Island Sites that are part of Faver-Dykes State Park, The Princess Place Preseve, and the Pellicer Creek Aquatic Preserve.  This biologically rich area has been described as "the cornerstone behind the nomination of the Matanzas River as the 25th National Estuarine Research Reserve of the United States".  This is where the Matanzas Inlet, one of the only natural inlets on the east coast of Florida, collides with one of the most pristine, undeveloped streams in Florida, The Pellicer Creek.  We are excited to offer comprehensive ecological and cultural kayak tours in this beautiful coastal system.    Don't miss this opportunity to visit the dolphins of Marineland and also the chance to witness their natural habitat in the Matanzas River Estuary.  All from the low-impact, unique perspective of a kayak!  Reservations Required!

Pricing:  Please call for group discount pricing!

  • Includes free admission into the Marineland Dolphin Adventure and professional guide service by certified University of Florida Master Naturalist Instructors!

  • $55/person for adults and $45 for children ages 6-15.

My wife and I took Ecotour's Marineland Kayak tour of the GTM-NERR on April 10th with Brandon as our guide. It was a beautiful day and Brandon made the most of every moment. He was a patient kayak instructor as well as a knowledegable guide and expert on the ecosystem of the GTM-NERR. His passion and enthusiasm for the biological plant and animal life of the area is contageoue! We came for a good outdoor experience but left with a much greater understanding of the value of Florida's natural resources. We highly recommend this experience, and to top it off Ripple Effect Ecotour gives you complimentary passes to Marineland--another great adventure--if you like dolphins!

We were looking for some exercise, nature, and fun on the water. We lucked out to get guide, Danny, on our same day call and reservation for a sunset tour. We were at Washington Oaks Park so it was a short jaunt over there. The intercoastal waterway near Marineland was a great trip. We spotted heron, egrets, ducks, and a lone dolphin. Danny had knowledge of the area and ecology. He certainly wanted to pass on information as well as ensure we had fun kayaking.

Thank you for a very educational, fun and safety minded tour today. Our family had a super time AND we learned a lot too. It was just the right amount of time and challenge. Thank you for taking the time on the tour to educate about caring for the earth as well. We are so interested in preserving the earth and it's amazing gifts from God such as the estuaries and water ways. Our guide Brandon and assistant Alex were top notch guides. Very professional, knowledgeable, talented and fun. Great with kids too!

WOW, we just returned from a sunset tour with our guide, Alex. We left from the Marineland area and paddled out into magnificent natural beauty and serenity. In the first ten minutes, we saw a blue heron, a snowy egret, a bottle nose dolphin and jumping fish! It was fabulous. It's the night before the full moon but it was just as beautiful as if it was full. Alex explained so much about the environment we paddled through and why it is so important to keep it in such pristine condition. He was so pleasant, informative and great to be with. We HIGHLY recommend this kyaking tour! smilies/grin.gif

I love the guys at Ripple Effect.
They are so much fun and incredibly informative. Their passion for what they do is outright contagious. I took a kayaking class with Danny to help start me out on the path to getting my level one certification in kayaking. The 2 hour class was a great deal of fun. His instruction was wonderful, he really helped me hone my skills and learn proper technique so I could move with more grace & efficiency in the water. I also learned safety skills and kayaking vocabulary. He also gave me further resources to continue my skills on my own. Thanks Danny! You're an excellent teacher! Can't wait to check out the February Naturalist classes, now that I'm back in town, and get back out on the water! ^_^

Dear Chris,

We just wanted you to know what a wonderful time we had with Brandon on our late afternoon tour on the 20th of October. Our friends, Annedore from Berlin, Germany and Lynne & Jim from St. Augustine, all first-timers in kayaking enjoyed themselves very much. Brandon is a great guide, lots of fun to be with and very knowledgeable.
Thanks for the invitation to Marineland. That was an additional special treat.
We will be back soon.

The best to all of you,

Howard & Petra Jones

Had a wonderful time. We were debating going to one of the theme parks, but who needs all the crowds? And you come away feeling they are so commercialized. This was a real excursion into nature, and much more worth the price.

Thanks for posting pics from our kayak tour back in early April. They were great to view and what with the dreary, rainy weather we've been having in the Northeast, we longed to be back there! You guys at Ripple Effects did a great job with our group. It was low-key but very informative. We enjoyed it and would recommend your kayak tours to others-in fact, we already have! Hope to see you again if we are lucky enough to vacation in that area again.

Had a great time exploring the waterways of the GTM. Our guides, Danny and Mike were outstanding on directing the groups as well as keeping everyone, especially the kids engaged in both the ecological aspects of the tour as well as the enjoyment of being on and around the water. The only disappointing part was that the adventure had to end! Definitely on our things to do again when we visit the area in the future. Thanks Guys!

We have been coming down to the Palm Coast area in Florida for several years now and have enjoyed St. Augustine to the North and Daytona Beach to the South. At the top of the list is the kayaking tour we took this year. My wife, 2 children and I had the best time and learned alot about the environment, the Intercoastal Waterway and the wildlife. Chris was our guide along with Mike and I would recommend the tour for both young and old. We dolphins while out and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you Chris, for explaining your tours so patiently. My first one was the noon Marineland tour last Monday, with Mike. We were rewarded with a fabulous dolphin encounter (the most Mike remembered seeing at one time in that area). It was wonderful to poke through the creeks, view the oyster beds, and ponder Mike's commentary about the vegetation and ever-changing ecosystem, much of the time completely out of view of anything man-made. Although I've always been apprehensive about crossing the ICW in a kayak, when the moment came to do it, I never gave it a thought! I'm now eagerly anticipating my next tour, Anastasia Sunset, next week. I really appreciate your taking pictures and sending them to us, so we don't have to worry about taking our individual cameras along.

So we are vacationing in Florida with my nephew from California. He's never been kayaking but wants to try so off we go to take this tour. Mike and Chris were the tour guides and they were wonderful with my nephew. In fact by the time we got done with this tour he decided he wanted to go again so the VERY next day Mike took us out to Deep Creek! Thanks Mike!
As for this tour? Beautiful! Fun! Relaxing! We really gained an appreciation for the environment. I want to commend Mike and Chris for the wonderful way in which they shared their knowledge about the area.
thanks so much guys, the two days we spent with you were the highlight of our trip!

I had such a great time on the kayak tour at Marineland! I learned all kinds of things about the marsh and the ecosystem it supports that I did not know... I had the delight of watching (from a distance, with binoculars) young bald eagles testing out their wings in their nest, and had a blast kayaking through the marsh! Guides Danny and Chris were excellent and enthusiastic in sharing their vast knowledge, but also so very helpful and patient in teaching us the mechanics of a tandom kayak! I love the fact that photos are taken and emailed to me - what a treat! This was my first kayak tour and I so enjoyed it that I will recommend it to my friends...I'd love to do it again! Thanks to Danny and Chris for a great time! smilies/smiley.gif

My first kayak experience; Danny and Chris are very personable and informative. Danny is chock full of information and has a vast wealth of knowledge; very patient with the youngsters and all their questions.
Danny is there any question that you don't know the answer to when it comes to nature and birds? You're a grat teacher. Thanks for a great time.

We did the Ripple Effect Eco Kayak tour and had a great time! Our tour guide, Chris was very informative and made the trip a lot of fun. For anyone who has never Kayak'd before you must try this. The adventure was effortless and took little to no skill to paddle through the tour area. When we return to Florida we are definitely planning on trying some of the other Kayak tours offered! Oh and the pictures that Chris took of the trip came out great and he emailed them to us in just over a week.

After such a great experience last year, we decided to take another tour this summer. Our guide was Matt, and he was terrific. He was kind and informative in answering my daughter's questions about the history and the ecosystem at Anastasia. Paddling in Anastasia at dusk is a most relaxing and enjoyable experience. From watching the dolphins to seeing pelicans coast over the water in the moonlight I will not easily forget this trip.

We went on the Marineland trip this week with Danny as our guide. This was our second kayaking adventure with Ripple Effect, and we will definitely be back for more! Danny was an amazing guide, with a dry sense of humor and vast knowledge of the wildlife and ecosystem. The scenery was gorgeous, and we even saw a pod of dolphins swimming near us! We also appreciated the attention to safety. See you next year!

Chris was an awesome guide! He told us so much about the marsh and the fragile ecosystem. He was very good about answering all of our questions and made sure that we saw a variety of interesting plant and their salt marsh adaptations. I also appreciated the orientation with all of the safety tips. I can definitely see myself doing this tour again when we return to Florida!

The Marineland sunset tour was wonderful. My friend and I enjoyed every moment of it -- well almost, the return-to-base haul against the tide was a bit rough on our aging shoulders, but thanks to Matt's tow-line and considerably younger and more powerful shoulders, we made it back home. Danny and Matt also added considerably to our store of knowledge about wetlands ecology. Many thanks to them both!

This was our first kayak trip. It was my husbands "birthday present". This was more relaxing than laying on the beach~ The tour was just beautiful. This was a great experiance for use since it was the first time kayaking. We are even thinking about investing in our own someday. We learned so much about the beautiful area and relize that we are so blessed to live so close. Lucky us...we are less than two hours and can do the tours whenever we need a break from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. This tour is not only educational...it offers quite time around nature at it puriest. We truley live in a beautiful world and need to take better care of it. This was the best part of our mini get away. Thank you Chris for your dedication to our ecosystem...see you again very soon with our daughter.

What an absolutely wonderful way to spend an afternoon...

The trip was just beautiful from beginning to end, dolphins playing alongside us as we paddled, ospreys up close and other raptors flying overhead, fish jumping everywhere, herons and egrets stalking prey so stealthily and all in such a stunningly beautiful and pristine habitat.

Chris and Danny led our group and were excellent. They made everyone feel so welcome and comfortable. Their knowledge and intelligence was obvious as was their absolute passion for what they are doing.

Congratulations to you both for providing us with the opportunity to relax and learn in such gorgeous surroundings. You are both great! We will be back to paddle with you again for sure!

I had never Kayaked before and was a bit (OK a lot) apprehensive about tackling this. However Chris made the trip as relaxing as possible for a type A personality. He gently reminded me about keeping my paddle turned to get the maximum pull in the water and I actually was able to relax, albeit splashing Chris while doing so. smilies/cheesy.gif I recommend this trip to anyone who wants to know more about Planet Earth- past, present, and future. I will take another tour when I come back to St. Augustine. I feel more comfortable in what to expect with Kayaking and am looking around here in South Georgia/North Florida (SOGANOFLA) for places to explore. Thanks for opening my eyes to a new experience.

We are somewhat experienced kayakers (well, one of us is smilies/wink.gif) & have been on several guided kayak tours in this area. Our trip to Anastasia Park was, by far, one of the best kayak experiences we've had! The area is spectacular &, as promised, several dolphins made an appearance, along with a dizzying array of other fish species. Chris Kelley's knowledge about the estuary is vast, but even more impressive was the very evident respect he has for these wondrous sea creatures, the dolphins. We were able to watch the dolphins from a distance, never encroaching on their habitat or creating any kind of disturbance that might inhibit their natural behavior.
We are looking forward to experiencing other tours with this fabulous company!

I was fortunate enough to experience one of these tours on the Gauna River. I came along with my brother, sister-in-law, his son (almost 9) and his daughter (7) during a morning tour. Chris and Surge (I'm sorry if I spelled this incorrectly!) provided instruction on how to kayak and fascinating information about this important ecosystem. Chris is a natural with delivery of interesting facts about the original peoples of the area, the wildlife and the plants. It is easy to see the excitement and love Chris has for this ecosystem. We saw many birds and fish, which Chris explained the importance of each specific animals' roles. Both my nephew and niece have repeatedly talked about what a special morning this was during our summer trip. I would encourage anyone and everyone to give this tour a try. It was a completely worthwhile experience and something out of the norm for your typical beach vacation.

I had the pleasure of taking an evening tour with Chris and Danny. And then a daytime tour with my husband in the same week with Chris as the guide. Both started from the U. of Fla. site across from Marineland. The evening tour we got to experience about 10 dolphins at sunset, and the setting sun was gorgeous! The morning tour, I saw different plants and snails (big ones) that Chris let us hold. It was my husband's first time to kayak, but their instruction is so great, and they make it so much fun, that everyone has a good time. Both Chris and Danny made it such an enjoyable experience & are so knowledgable. I want to come back now and see manatees. I would recommend these trips to anyone interested in nature and having fun. This was a fantastic tour and the highlight of our vacation. I was a little apprehensive about having our 8 year old daughter ride in the middle while my wife and I paddled, but she had a really great time. We all learned a great deal about the Matanzas ecosystem. I particularly enjoyed the tranquility of being so far away from roads and development. I have already recommended this tour to some friends who will be vacationing in the area, and I look forward to having the chance to do it again. The photos taken by our guide Chris are great and it was a real treat to find them in my inbox upon returning home from vacation.
